Minnesota provider revalidation is required by May 31, 2026. Learn what it means, who it affects, and what happens if homecare agencies don’t complete it.

Minnesota State Capital

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has set a May 31, 2026 deadline for provider revalidation, requiring homecare agencies to confirm they meet all Medicaid requirements. Some providers are already approved, many are still completing the process, and some may not meet the deadline. Accra is actively engaged in revalidation and will continue operating without disruptions to client services. If other providers are impacted, Accra is prepared to support individuals and lead agencies with a smooth transition and is currently accepting new referrals.

Minnesota Sets 2026 Deadline for Medicaid Provider Revalidation: What It Means for Homecare Services

“What Is Minnesota Provider Revalidation and Why Is There a 2026 Deadline?”

Homecare providers across Minnesota are working through an urgent deadline tied to federal oversight requirements that could impact access to care for individuals and families who rely on services.

By May 31, providers enrolled in Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) must complete a required revalidation process to continue delivering and billing for care.

This off-cycle revalidation effort, known as “Minnesota Revalidate 2026, is DHS’s response to increased federal and state oversight from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Some providers have already been approved, many are still completing the process, and others have not yet responded or may not meet the deadline.

Individuals, families, and lead agencies already navigating ongoing changes in the homecare industry are thinking, “What happens if a provider doesn’t complete revalidation in time, and what should you do next?”

What Happens If a Provider Misses the Revalidation Deadline?

  • They may be removed from MHCP enrollment
  • They can no longer bill for Medicaid services
  • Their clients who receive services may need to transition to another provider

For individuals receiving care, this can mean unexpected disruptions and the need to quickly identify a new provider.

At Accra, we are actively supporting individuals and lead agencies through these types of transitions and are prepared to step in to help maintain consistent, uninterrupted care.

What Is Provider Revalidation?

Provider revalidation is a mandatory, periodic process that ensures organizations delivering Medicaid-funded services continue to meet all state and federal requirements.

Overseen by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, revalidation includes:

  • Verifying ownership and organizational structure
  • Reviewing policies, procedures, and compliance practices
  • Confirming eligibility to provide and bill for services

For individuals receiving care, revalidation is designed to protect access to safe and reliable services. For providers, revalidation means meeting strict requirements to continue operating.

Why Is Minnesota Revalidation Required in 2026?

Most providers complete revalidation on a regular cycle — typically every five years, or every three years for services that require additional oversight.

Minnesota Revalidate 2026 is different.

This is an off-cycle effort focused specifically on providers delivering services identified as ‘high-risk’. This includes programs like:

Given the scale, time-sensitivity, and complexities of this process, many providers may miss the deadline, affecting some of Minnesota’s most vulnerable populations.

How Many Minnesota Providers Have Not Completed Revalidation?

Out of approximately 850 PCA and CFSS agencies in Minnesota, fewer than half have been approved so far, with hundreds still outstanding. Across all high-risk service providers, an estimated
